Avatâra has an interest not only in collaborating with artists from different cultural backgrounds but also researching the dance sectors of non-European countries in order to broaden our view on how another culture deals with its own performing arts sector, observing their achievements but also their deficiencies and difficulties. These cultural dance experiences aim to engage in dialogue, exchange knowledge and pursue collaborations with creative minds from other cultures: one of the greatest privileges any artist can have. Her latest research took place in Nunavut (the Canadian Arctic).
Thomas Sankara: “You cannot carry out fundamental change without a certain amount of madness. It comes from nonconformity, the courage to invent the future. It took the madmen of yesterday (and I add: the madwomen) for us to be able to act with extreme clarity today. I want to be one of those madmen/madwomen. [...] We must dare to invent the future.” "Collaboration not Appropriation" Published at British Council Website, Artists' International Development Fund Grant, 2018 Download Article "Let's Dare to Invent the Future" Publication at We Were Here. AWA DANCE (Advancing Women's Aspirations with Dance) is is a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) based in the UK, founded by the choreographer Avatâra Ayuso. It is dedicated to the leadership development of women and girls, using the transformative power of dance as the tool to empower their voices. We believe women are astonishing creative forces of nature, whose energy and power can contribute to change in society. Our leadership approach to support this journey is guided by our five DANCE values:
Dream + Act + Navigate + Create + Empower If you are a woman or a girl, inside or outside of the dance sector, who wants to break down stereotypes, have your voice heard, live in a better, more equal and thought-provoking world, the AWA DANCE programmes are for you. We will unlock your leadership potential by entering a world of inspiring, challenging and life-changing opportunities, becoming part of our AWA DANCE network, a world of creative, confident and inspirational women ready for the challenges of the 21st century. |
